How To Capture Playful. The to-date definitive statement from internet rapper Pink Navel and world standard setting producer Kenny Segal. The album was approached and conceptualized knowing there is a miasma swallowing our globe, our world is in peril, danger is omnipresent. As a society, we risked it all, gambled our free and fun, staked nature and its God for a hyper connectivity that promotes anxiety and isolation and monoculture. Where is the fun? Who has maintained their grin? Where is the plot going? Enter Pink Navel, a jovial and trustworthy person who gets it. A person entertaining and occupying play between several marginalized identity markers and yet is still not defined by those words or experiences.

Pink Navel is a rapper, a wordsmith, a great musician with big ears. How To Capture Playful is their opening salvo and Kenny Segal is the perfect maestro and foil to introduce Pink Navel to a wider audience. Kenny Segal who has been a stalwart of the underground since before the otherground, Kenny Segal who produced for Freestyle Fellowship, Open Mike Eagle, Hemlock Ernst, milo, R.A.P. Ferreira, Serengeti and many more. Perhaps the only producer working now who values whimsy, Segal was able to enter Pink Navel’s head canon with a tape recorder and loop the sunbeams shining within.

How To Capture Playful is the newest portal to a yet unexplored altered destiny. Pink Navel once told me eagerly that if given the chance they would become a cyborg. We giggled at length as the artist elaborated on what abilities their modifications would grant them. Pink Navel raps like a cyborg, a self fulfilling, self actualizing quilt of places and experiences, battery powered. Concealed within this album’s gamespeak corners and online banter libraries is a universal human core, unarmored. The glimpses the listener catches will endear and enchant you, Pink Navel is just like you. Only different.
